WELCOME TO RIVERMONT AVENUE

Welcome to the Rivermont Avenue Heritage Trust, the official website of the Friends of Rivermont Historical Society.

The Rivermont Avenue subdivision was planned as a residential suburb of Lynchburg in the early 1890s. The name “Rivermont” can be traced to the 1850s’ property of William Daniel, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth Hannah Cabell. This original property stretched from near Point of Honor to the current Rivermont Avenue.

Anecdotal Information
2921-2935 Rivermont was the original site of Rivermont Park. The park, which also had various entertainment venues such as vaudeville and a roller coaster, was included in the original plans of the Rivermont Company in the 1890s. In these plans, Rivermont Park was the terminus of the Rivermont streetcar line. The park lost popularity in the 1920s and was replaced by Riverside Park in the 2200 block of Rivermont.
