Welcome to the Rivermont Avenue Heritage Trust, the official website of the Friends of Rivermont Historical Society.

The Rivermont Avenue subdivision was planned as a residential suburb of Lynchburg in the early 1890s. The name “Rivermont” can be traced to the 1850s’ property of William Daniel, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth Hannah Cabell. This original property stretched from near Point of Honor to the current Rivermont Avenue.

Style & Architectural Description
Colonial Revival. 2 1/2-story, 3-bay gable-roofed house with modillion cornice and pedimented gable end. Wraparound porch has Tuscan column and pedimented gable over entrance bay. Polygonal bay on second story of southeast corner. Dormers have arched windows. Rear wing may incorporate original garage. Entire house clad in aluminum siding. Modified to 2 apartments.

Anecdotal Information
According to the Lynchburg City Directory, from 1925-1930 The College Park Inn restaurant was located here. In 1936 this was the Stafford House (likely a boarding house) and from 1937-1957 the White Gables Tourist Home.
